Family Hacks – Week 4

September 25, 2022

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.  Hebrews 13:8

This week in our worship services we learned how to deal with change in our families. We learned three areas in which we can grow: Unflinching Commitment, Unwavering Conviction and Uncompromising Character. We also learned three ways to inspire our families: Cast a family vision, Create family values, and Carve a family plan.

Day 1 – Engage our faith

Begin your time with God in prayer: Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Read Philippians 3:1-14.

Why did Paul have reason to put his confidence in his accomplishments (4-6)?

What replaced his pursuit of those accomplishments (7-11)?

How had his values changed?

What new goal was he pursuing (12-14)?

Application:

What have you let go of in order that you might take hold of Jesus?

Evaluate your commitment to knowing and following Jesus?

Set a time to meet with Jesus each day and look for a mentor to help you grow.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for Paul’s example of a changed life. Help me to pursue knowing you and experiencing you like Paul.  Amen.

Day 2 – Exercise your trust

Begin your time with God in prayer: Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Read: Hebrews 11:1-3, 6.

What is faith (1)?

How is verse 3 an illustration of faith?

Why is our faith important (6)?

Read the following verses and meditate on unwavering trust,

Psalm 27:1-4

Proverbs 3:5-6

Psalm 86:11

Galatians 2:20

Application:

What areas of your life is it easy to trust God with?

Where do you struggle trusting God?

What is one way you can exercise and grow in your faith today?

Prayer: Jesus, you are worthy of my trust. Forgive me for my lack of faith. Help me to exercise my faith so that I can grow in trusting you.  Amen.

Day 3 – Emulate Jesus

Begin your time with God in prayer: Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Read 1 Corinthians 11:1.

What example did Paul set?

Look in any of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and find one way you can follow Jesus’ example.

Application:

Determine how you will put Jesus’ example into practice today.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for your example of how to live a godly life. Help me to faithfully read your Word so that I can continue to follow your example each day. Amen.

Day 4 – Divine Resources

Begin your time with God in prayer: Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Read 2 Peter 1:1-9.

What has God’s divine power given us (3)?

What else has God given us to help us along the way (4)?

What should we be adding to our faith as we grow in our faith (5-7)?

What will these qualities prevent (8)?

Application:

To what degree do you rely on the resources God has given you to live a godly life?

Look at the character list in verses 5-7. Ask Jesus which one he wants you to focus on today and add to your faith.

Look for ways to put that character quality into practice today.

Prayer: Father, thank you that you have given me everything that I need to live a godly life. Give me the discipline to add those qualities to my life so that I will be pleasing to you. Amen.

Day 5 – Uncompromising Character

Begin your time with God in prayer: Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Read Daniel 1:1-20

How did Daniel get to Babylon?

Why was he chosen?

How did Daniel show uncompromising character?

What was the result of Daniel’s uncompromising character?

Application:

Spend some time asking the Spirit to show you where you are compromising your character.

Determine, like Daniel, that you will be true to God in that area.

Step out in faith, trusting Jesus with whatever happens.

Prayer: Jesus, you deserve my worship and service. Forgive me for the times I have compromised my walk with you. Give me courage like Daniel to do what is right.  Amen.
