Be Transformed
July 31, 2022

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:1-2

This week we are going to review five keys to life transformation that we have covered in the past few months.

Day 1 – Acknowledge God as God

Begin your time with God in prayer

Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart

Transformation begins by giving God His proper place in our lives.

Read Luke 4:8.

Although we know God should come first, unfortunately, for most of us, it’s a daily struggle. Sometimes we don’t want His purposes or His ways. Other times we just get busy and before we know it, we are calling the shots. That’s why we need transformation.

The great news is that while changing our lives is difficult, it is not too hard for God.

Read Jeremiah 32:17.

Apply God’s Word to your life

What competes with God to be first in your life?

When, in your day, do you get busy and forget about God?

Take a moment and give God first place in your life through prayer.

Prayer: Father, you alone are God. I confess that even though I say you are my God, the way I live shows that often you are not. I get busy and distracted and forget to put you first. Guide me because I am in need of transformation. Teach me how to worship you and you alone.  Amen

Day 2 – Making Time for God

Begin your time with God in prayer

Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart

For transformation to occur in our lives, we need to find time to spend with God. Even Jesus needed to spend time with His Father.

Read Mark 1:35.

How did Jesus find time to spend with His Father?

What sacrifices did Jesus need to make to get away with God?

Apply God’s Word to your life

What challenges do you face in making time for God each day?

What sacrifices do you need to make to find time in your day to spend with God?

Where and when will you go to be alone with him?

Prayer: Father, thank you for your patience with me. Forgive me for every time I don’t find the time to spend with you. Help me to make the time to spend with you each day. Give me the discipline to put you before all the other distractions in my life. Amen

Day 3 – Tools of Transformation

Begin your time with God in prayer

Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart

God uses two main things to transform our lives – the Word of God and the Spirit of God. We receive the Spirit the moment we receive Jesus as our Savior (Eph. 1:13). Every time we come to a Worship Service, spend time in God’s Word or attend a Small Group, God puts His Word in our heads and in our hearts. The Holy Spirit then uses that Word to guide us and transform us.

Read John 14:26.

Read John 16:13.

Apply God’s Word to your life

What truth has God written on your heart this week?

In what ways did the Spirit try to guide you with God’s Word this week?

Describe your response to the Spirit’s leading. Were you eager to follow? Did you try to ignore his leading? Were you unaware of him?

Prayer: Father, thank you that you write your Word on my heart and you have placed your Spirit in me to guide me. Help me to be aware of your Spirit this week. Give me the desire to follow your Word. I want you to transform my heart and my life.  Amen.

Day 4 – Don’t Underestimate the Battle

Begin your time with God in prayer

Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart

One of the realities that we need to contend with is that there are forces working against us. Our hearts are deceitful. Our flesh leads us contrary to the Spirit. The evil one is seeking to destroy us. In order for us to be successful, we need God.

Read Jeremiah 17:9.

Read Romans 7:18.

Read 1 Peter 5:8.

Read 1 John 2:15-17.

Apply God’s Word to your life

How aware are you of the battles you face each day?

When have you battled your flesh or the deceitfulness of your own heart?

When are you most vulnerable to attacks from the evil one?

How will choosing to do God’s will each day help you face the battle?

Prayer: Father, I praise you that there is no evil in you. I can trust you with my life. Help me to grasp that my heart does not always want what is best for me. Help me not trust my desires unless they line up with yours. Help me to rely on you to overcome the spiritual warfare in my life. Take my deceitful, flesh driven heart of mine and transform it to be like yours. Amen.

Day 5 – Meditating on the Word

Begin your time with God in prayer

Praise God for who he is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart

It is not enough for us to just read the Word of God.  We need to meditate on it day and night.  That means that we think about God’s Word throughout our day and let it impact our hearts, our thoughts and our actions.

Read Joshua 1:8.

Apply God’s Word to your life

What does it mean to keep God’s Word on your lips?

What does thinking about God’s Word day and night enable you to do?

What is the benefit of meditating on God’s Word?

Spend a few minutes meditating on Psalm 1:1-3.

Prayer: Father, teach me how to meditate on your Word. Help me to think about it day and night. Help me to be careful to put into practice all that I am learning in your Word. Use your Spirit to get my attention when I get pulled away from you and your ways. May my life bring you glory today.  Amen
