SG Questions – July 31

Toni Knight   -

In light of the message series we just completed and the campus specific message this past weekend we wanted to take a moment to spend time on reflection, prayer, and discussion.

REFLECTION: 15 – 20 minutes (This is a personal time of reflection. Spread out or quietly sit where you are. Feel free to write on paper or take notes in your phone to remain focused. )

  • Read the following passage of Scripture slowly 3 times:

“For our struggle is NOT against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭

  • Circle the word or phrase that stands out to you.
    • Write down the word or phrase.
    • Why does this word/phrase stand out to you?
  • Spend time praying and reflect on what God is asking you to do in response to this verse.
    • Is there someone (or a group of people) in your life that you are currently in conflict with or frustrated by?
    • What is God asking you to release?
    • What is God asking you to confront?
    • What is God asking you to confess?

DISCUSSION (15 minutes)

  • Share anything that God has revealed to you in this time of reflection.
  • What has stood out to you the most over the past 8 weeks of the Battle Ready series?

  • Read Mark 9: 17-24

“A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!””‬ ‭

  • Underline verse 24.
    • Spend 10 minutes writing whatever comes to your mind by allowing the following prompt to begin a time of reflection for you …

It is sometimes difficult for me to believe that God is ___________ because….

Share with each other what stood out to you in how you responded to the reflection question.

Group PRAYER (remainder of time)

In August we begin a sermon series about the difficult questions that we face in life about God. We know that many sensitive conversations and Truths are going to be shared. Would you take time praying for the following:

  • For the campus pastors who will be preaching the messages. That God would give them clarity and grace and courage.
  • For someone in your life that you can invite to church for this series who has questions about their faith.
  • For your own life and heart to be challenged and encouraged through this next series.
